Recovery begins before surgery
A safe timeline starts with a realistic plan for the procedure, anesthesia and your health. The clinic may request examinations or adjustments to medication, smoking or alcohol. Follow only the instructions given for your case; do not stop prescribed medication without the prescribing clinician’s advice.
Arrange a nearby place to rest, simple meals, transport that does not require you to drive, a charged phone and an adult companion if the care team requires one. International patients should keep their schedule flexible because discharge and follow-up depend on actual recovery.
The first 24 to 48 hours
Immediately after surgery, monitoring focuses on alertness, breathing, circulation, pain, nausea, bleeding and the treated area. Drowsiness and temporary swelling can occur, but the expected pattern depends on the operation and anesthesia. Follow the written instructions for positioning, cold care, dressings, medication and eating or drinking.
Do not drive, drink alcohol or make important travel decisions after sedation or general anesthesia. Know the clinic’s contact method and the local emergency number. Severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, loss of consciousness, uncontrolled bleeding or a rapidly worsening condition requires urgent medical attention.
The first week and early review
Early follow-up may include checking the wound, changing dressings, removing sutures or a splint and adjusting care. Swelling and bruising often change rather than disappear in a straight line. Photographs taken day by day can be misleading, so use the surgeon’s milestones instead of social-media recovery claims.
Plan low-demand days and avoid crowds, strenuous exercise, smoking and any activity the surgeon restricts. Do not apply unapproved skincare, massage or devices to the surgical area. If you are staying in Seoul, choose accommodation that makes return visits practical.
Weeks to months: function before appearance
Returning to desk work, exercise, contact sports, glasses, makeup or long flights can have different timelines. Clearance should be based on the procedure, wound status, swelling, bleeding risk, anesthesia and how far you will be from appropriate care.
Visible bruising may improve before deeper swelling resolves. Scar maturation and the final contour can take months, and revision rhinoplasty can take longer. A normal-looking photograph is not medical clearance for exercise or air travel.
Build follow-up into the travel plan
Before leaving Korea, ask for a written summary of the operation, medication, implant or graft details when relevant, warning signs and the next follow-up date. Confirm whether remote photographs are useful and which symptoms require an in-person examination.

International patients may also wish to include their arrival and departure dates so the team can explain when an in-person consultation and follow-up may fit into the trip.
